Guess who’s Australia’s Best Small Credit Union?

We’re excited to announce that we’ve taken out top honours in the Mozo Expert Choice Awards to be named Australia’s Best Small Credit Union for 2020!

And who better to tell us all about it than our Chief Operating Officer, Tim Prowse.

It’s quite a feat to win the Best Small Credit Union Award! Can you tell us about how Credit Union SA has continued to stay competitive in an ever-expanding financial market?

Well firstly we couldn’t have won this award without the support and loyalty of our members. They played a big part in making this possible. So did our incredible team of money experts, member service specialists, designers, researchers, analysts, digital developers, leaders and marketers - who work tirelessly to give our members the very best.

And although, we have been around for decades, and we are a smaller size credit union, we have always given the big four a run for their money. Thanks to our innovative team, we have been able to develop and deliver a huge range of award-winning digital banking solutions for our members, as well as keep our rates super competitive.

And to top it off, unlike banks we don’t have shareholders which means our profits actually go back to our members and local community.

We know Credit Union SA has strong ties to the education sector and incidentally, also won a Mozo Experts Choice Award for its Education Community Credit Card. Can you tell us more about that relationship?

We believe that education plays an extremely important role in transforming communities across Australia. That’s why on top of having exclusive education community banking benefits, we sponsor a huge range of professional development events, and awards.

This relationship is something we continue to foster through our School Community Rewards program which has helped raise over $300,000 for South Australian schools and with our dedicated mobile team who work hard to support the education community with their banking needs.

Finally, what is the best part about being a small credit union? Are you able to connect with local communities more? Do you find that members are more loyal?

We can be nimble and react to the needs of our members faster than many other financial institutions, and when our members chat with us, they are speaking with local people from their own communities.

Community involvement is something we are passionate about, because we feel we have a responsibility to help improve the lives of South Australians to create a brighter future for us all. That’s why we support local organisations like St John’s Youth Services, The Zahra Foundation, and the SALA Festival.

We’ve found that our members choose to bank with us because they feel like they are a part of something fairer and more human than traditional banks. Their trust and faith in us are what motivates us to keep evolving, and this award is a nice validation that we’re on the right track.
