Keeping your Internet Banking details safe

Screen scraping, Open Banking and what it means for you

Your security is a top priority for us. That’s why we’ve made an important change to how third-party applications and software can access your Internet Banking. Some services collect banking information by asking for your Internet Banking login and password, then signing in on your behalf to gather data. This practice is known as screen scraping.

Screen scraping requires you to share your login details, so it can increase the risk of fraud, scams and unauthorised account access. To better protect our members, access to Internet Banking via screen scraping is now blocked.

This change is already in effect; it is intentional and part of ongoing security improvements across the whole banking industry.

How this change may affect you

You may be impacted if you use an application or software that asks you to enter your Credit Union SA Internet Banking login and password. This could include some budgeting tools, payment services or financial management apps.

If the app relies on screen scraping, it will no longer be able to connect to your account.

We don’t support password based third party access and won’t be re‑enabling it. This approach helps protect members today and avoids future disruption as security measures continue to improve.

A safer way to connect using Open Banking

Many apps now use Open Banking instead. Open Banking is a government regulated way to securely share banking data without giving your Internet Banking password to another service.

    When using Open Banking:

    • You do not share your Internet Banking password
    • You choose what information is shared
    • You can withdraw access at any time

This gives you more control and significantly reduces the risk of your login details being misused.

What to look for when choosing an app

To connect using Open Banking, the app or software provider must be an Accredited Data Receiver.
Accredited providers are approved under Australia’s Consumer Data Right framework and must meet strict security and privacy standards.

You can check whether a provider is accredited on the Australian Government website.
