Great news! Visa has enhanced its security for online purchases making the experience seamless and simpler.

Along with these enhancements, Visa has rebranded the name from Verified by Visa to Visa Secure.

Visa Secure and eftpos Secure are our 3D Secure fraud prevention measures designed to add an additional layer for security to your online shopping to protect against fraudulent card use. In certain instances, you may be requested to validate your identity by confirming your purchase with an OTP (One-time Password) sent to your registered mobile device. Entering this password will confirm your identity and your transaction will be approved.

So, it’s important we have your correct contact details on file. You can check your contact details in Internet Banking or select ‘My details’, from the drop-down menu, then ‘Update contact details’ in your Mobile Banking App.

Do I need to register my card for Visa Secure?

No, there is no need for any registration. All you need to do is to make sure you have a valid mobile number registered with Credit Union SA, so you can receive your OTP. For more information on updating your contact details go to our FAQs.

What should I do when I receive a “Payment Authentication” screen during an online payment?

Most payments will be approved automatically behind the scenes. But in some cases a “Payment Authentication” screen may appear shortly after you attempt to complete an online purchase and you will be asked to enter an OTP sent to your mobile number. This verification helps us ensure it’s you and protect you from potential fraud. Never give the OTP to another person!

What happens if I don’t receive my OTP?

The mobile phone number stored with Credit Union SA might be different from your current number. To change your mobile number, you can update your details by logging in to Internet Banking - just go to the Settings tab and select Contact Details to update. Or call us on (08) 8202 7777 and talk to one of our friendly Member Service Consultants.

Can I still use my Credit Union SA Visa Credit or Debit Card at online retailers that are not participating in this program?

Yes, your Credit Union SA Visa credit or debit card will continue to work as usual. The only difference being the extra protection provided by Visa Secure will not apply. Your card will still be protected by our 24/7 fraud monitoring service and Zero Liability* for fraudulent transaction

Does Visa Secure cost me anything?

Visa Secure is a free service for Credit Union SA members.

What if I’ve received an OTP via SMS, but I’m not making online purchases?

The good news is the transaction can’t be completed without the OTP, but you should contact us immediately on (08) 82027777. It is important never to give the OTP to another person, if you are asked for it, this is a scam and we may not be able to recover any lost funds if the OTP is shared.

How can I be sure that an online retailer website is a secure site and my data is not being compromised?

It is important that when you are purchasing online and providing card and personal information, that you do so on a site that you recognise.

To increase card security when shopping online you should ensure the following:

Look for reputable online retailers or stores. If you are unsure of the business or their online security, then ask for more information before using their service.
Ensure that your computer has current anti-virus and firewall protection.
Print out copies of online receipts or take a screen-shot of the online transaction receipt to make it easier to check your statement.
