2015 Credit Union Christmas Pageant Royal road trip
11 Dec 2015
Our very own Queen Eliza shared her experience of the 2015 Credit Union Christmas Pageant Royal Road Trip.
Each year, the Credit Union Christmas Pageant takes the pageant magic on the road and visits a regional area. This year I was incredibly lucky to visit the Barossa and Riverland.
Ever since I was a child, I have visited the Riverland with my family, so going back to share the magic of the pageant which is something I love was very special to me.
Our first stop was the Tanunda Primary school and Disability unit; we performed our ‘panto’ to the amazing students who knew a lot about our pageant. They sang along and really enjoyed the performance, and promised they would remember our special royal greeting for Pageant day.
Whilst in the Barossa we were very lucky to be able to enjoy some incredible South Australian Produce on the Butcher, Baker and Winemaker trail. This gives you an opportunity to go around the Barossa and collect food and wine items to then enjoy in a picnic amongst the vines. I loved visiting some local icons and connecting with the Barossa community who were a bit surprised to see us in our parading in our costumes down Murray Street!
Our next stop was the Riverland, and what an incredible welcome we got from Cobdogla Primary School, we loved meeting all the students.
In between our school visits we were lucky to be able to play tourist! Our first night was spent on a houseboat, cruising down the beautiful River Murray. Watching the sun set on this beautiful South Australian icon I was able to take a moment and reflect on what an wonderful opportunity this is… Not only am I living my lifelong dream to be the Credit Union Christmas Pageant Queen, but I was with the amazing people who make up our Royal Family, watching a beautiful sunset and enjoying local South Australian Food. It really doesn’t get much better than that, and is an experience I will remember and treasure for a life time.
After a good night’s sleep we were up and ready to do it all again! Our second day’s adventure included two school visits, the Riverland Special School and St Joseph’s in Renmark. At one of the schools I was lucky to meet one of our members; being in the member contact centre I get to know our members very well over the phone and to be able to put a face to the name was awesome!
We finished our second day with lunch at the Bella Lavender farm. The owners gave us the warmest welcome having dressed our table in Christmas decorations and I had some of the most delicious pizza I have ever tasted.
Whilst our tour was only short, we certainly packed a lot in. Spreading the Pageant Magic to kids in regional SA and visiting some incredible South Australian icons with the 2015 Credit Union Christmas Pageant Royal Family will be an everlasting memory I will always treasure.
