Credit Union SA supports Soup & Sleep 2024 - a South Australian charitable event to ensure “no one goes hungry!”

South Australian charitable organisation Food on the Table held its fourth “Soup & Sleep” fundraiser on Thursday, 6 June 2024. The initiative aims to shine a light on homeless communities and raise vital funds for those who go without food and safe shelter in South Australia.

Soup & Sleep 2024 took place at Food on the Table headquarters in Hindmarsh. During the evening, nutritious meals were made by our participants, including iconic local chefs, to feed people in need. The evening also included entertainment provided by generous local performers and personal stories shared by those who have overcome struggles with homelessness.

The night finished with all participants choosing to sleep on only a piece of cardboard under the stars to experience what rough sleeping is like in the middle of a cold, Adelaide winter.

Credit Union SA CEO, Todd Roberts, is proudly leading a team of employees to take part in this year’s event.

“To hear that 7,000 people in our state are estimated to experience homelessness every night is alarming. So many of us take for granted the simple basics of nourishing food on a table and a safe home to sleep in. In the last 12 months, we’ve heard how hard it is for many people with the cost of living going up, the rental market being so hard to get into and more people sacrificing food to keep a roof over their head.

"Supporting Food on the Table at the Soup & Sleep event is important to me and our team at Credit Union SA. It’s a powerful reminder of the influence we have in our community when we’re united. This strikes at the core of Credit Union SA, in our commitment to provide all South Australians a better quality of life. Collectively as a team, we are aiming to fundraise over $10,000 for Food on the Table.”

Food on the Table General Manager, Roxy Jones, is grateful for Credit Union SA’s support, which includes running fundraising soup events in their office kitchen during the month of May, so that their 150 staff members can get involved in directly supporting the event and making a difference to those experiencing homelessness.

"Our modest charity aims to bring hope and sustenance to struggling South Australians. Together, we ensure no one suffers from hunger. Each night, approximately 7,000 individuals in South Australia face homelessness, with a troubling 15% being children under 12. We thank Credit Union SA for their generous support, in aiding those in need within our community."

In this Financial Year alone, Food on The Table has been able to provide over 90,000 meals to vulnerable groups. On average, they deliver 2,000 meals each week to Adelaide charity partners, including Domestic Violence shelters, emergency housing, Puddle Jumpers Food Hub, Hutt Street Centre, Baptist Care and many more.
