We've won the Mozo Experts Choice Excellent Banking App Award!

We sat down with our Digital Innovation Manager (top techie), Sean Colyer to chat about our Mozo Experts Choice Excellent Banking App Award.

Sean joined us almost two years ago and is focused on making our digital banking capability the best it can be.


Hi Sean! I know you’re super excited about our recent Mozo win. In your opinion, why do you think we took out top honours?

It’s a pretty big deal to take out any Mozo award, since they look at all publicly available banking products - meaning everyone is on an even playing field.

So in our case, I think they’ve not only considered our app functionality but also everything attached to it like our digital payment options. 

We have a great Mobile Banking App but we also have one of the best offerings in terms of digital payments including Google Pay™, Apple Pay, Samsung Pay, Fitbit Pay and Garmin Pay. This is what really set us apart from other finalists.


So I guess this leads onto my next question… what do you think our best Mobile Banking App features are?

We have some really cool features like our card control options which allow members to lock their card, change their pin and block international and online purchases - all from their app. It’s a really powerful function!

There’s also small things which set us apart from other banking apps, like the ability for our members to see what’s been charged to their accounts in real-time. A lot of other of banks don’t offer this - meaning sometimes people will have to wait up to 24 hours or overnight for charges to appear in their app.

These are only simple things but contribute considerably to how good the app is overall.


Tell us a little about what you and your team do to develop our Mobile Banking App?

We do a bunch of research to identify what’s new on the market and what features will best benefit our members. We then assess the cost and decide whether it’s worthwhile developing.

We’ve also just started undertaking one-on-one interviews with members and non-members. Talking through how they use their banking app and how they do their banking, so we can best identify their pain points. This way we can find ways to address these issues and make the app a one-stop-shop!


What new functions are we expecting in the future?

We have app updates happening this year which will allow members to:

  • Open new accounts
  • Let us know about overseas travel arrangements
  • View and manage eStatements
  • Better manage their contact details
  • And access new security features (e.g. last login info)
