Credit Union SA: Access

Secure SMS

At Credit Union SA, Internet Banking security is of paramount importance to us and with the occurrence of fraud continually on the rise, we are committed to ensuring your funds and personal information are protected.

In line with this commitment we are pleased to announce that the next generation of Internet Banking security – Secure SMS.

Secure SMS is a free and easy to use service which provides an increased level of security when completing transactions using Internet Banking1. Using the speed of text messaging, Secure SMS makes online banking safer by using your mobile phone to provide an extra secure level of authentication.  If you don’t have a mobile phone there’s no need to worry as the code can be sent to your Landline where it will be read to you2.

Here’s how it works:

Step 1

On completing certain transactions in Internet Banking (like a BPAY payment to a new Biller or a transfer to a new person outside your membership), you will be prompted to request a Secure SMS code to authenticate these transactions.

Step 2

On hitting the “Request SMS Code” button in Internet Banking, a one-time code is then sent to your nominated phone, which you then enter into Internet Banking. As an extra security measure this code is valid for 5 minutes only.

Step 3

Enter the code into Internet Banking and the transaction is processed.

Secure SMS is intelligent – once you have completed a BPAY payment or transfer to a new Biller or person using Secure SMS, you will not be required to authenticate these destinations again, making payments using Internet Banking quicker and even more convenient.

Convenient and easy to use, Secure SMS is a free service for members and is an exciting development in the area of personal banking fraud protection.

Registering for Secure SMS is easy.  Simply log on to Internet Banking, go to ‘SMS’ and follow the prompts.

VIP Security

Add a stronger layer of protection for your online accounts with the Credit Union SA VIP Security.

VIP security is the highest level of security offered by Credit Union SA and is aimed at protecting you from unauthorised access to your funds through Internet Banking. It is most suited for members who have unreliable mobile phone coverage, reside overseas, or who wish to have heightened transaction limits.

To use VIP Security you have two options:

VIP Access for Mobile

  1. Check that your mobile phone is compatible with the VIP Mobile Credential at https://vipmobile.verisign.com/supportedphones.v.
  2. If you have a mobile phone with internet access you can download the VIP Access for Mobile application to your mobile phone by browsing to m.verisign.com.
  3. The application is free but your mobile phone provider may charge for the download.

VIP Security Token

  1. You can purchase a VIP Security Token from Credit Union SA for $20.  To purchase a token just send us a message through the Send Us a Secure Message facility in Internet Banking and provide the address to send the token to.

Both of the above options generate a one-time 6 digit code that must be entered to complete certain transactions or access some areas within Internet Banking.

Once you have downloaded ‘VIP Access for Mobile’ on your mobile phone or have received your ‘VIP Security Token’, simply log on to Credit Union SA Internet Banking and select Register VIP Credential from the Tools menu and follow the prompts.

Factor 2 authentication

Factor 2 authentication is a second tier Internet Banking security system that requires members to select a set of personal icons.

Members are required to register for Factor 2 as a lead-in to the transaction process for external payment transactions through Internet Banking.

Our Internet Banking system leads members through the registration process the first time a Factor 2 protected transaction is requested.

During the registration process members are requested to select three icons to form their personal Factor 2 passcode. Each icon is selected from a range of categories presented on screen.

Once registered, members will only need to select their personal Factor 2 icons once in any internet banking session. The 'icon challenge' will be presented for the initial external payment transaction (ie. BPAY, cheque withdrawal, funds transfer to another financial institution).

The selection of your personal icons must be carried out in the correct order.

Email Receipts

Members have the option of receiving email receipts confirming the following internet banking transactions:

  • transfers to other accounts within your membership
  • transfers to other Credit Union SA members accounts
  • transfers to another financial institution
  • cheque payments
  • BPAY

Besides being another form of record keeping, email receipts have the potential to alert users to unauthorised activity on their accounts, thereby enabling them to take appropriate actions.
